WESTSIDE UNITED

Westside United Collaborates with Area Clubs and Teams
posted on 04/29/2009

As part of the 2009-10 season, Westside United will be making its youth training outside of its four affiliated youth soccer clubs in Seattle (Ballard, Magnolia, Queen Anne, Woodland).

Expanding the program's coach and trainer pool will permit training in other Seattle neighborhoods.  Players will continue to train close to their neighborhoods.  This effort will only occur in neighborhoods with the support of the local youth soccer clubs and only as new Westside United training resources become available.

For existing teams that desire a loose affiliation to the program, Westside will provide a variety of planning and resource assistance to these "Affiliated" Seattle select soccer teams ("Affiliates") that is in the spirit of and with direction towards the ongoing Seattle United unification initiative.

With these changes, the core values of the program will remain.  Westside United will continue to deliver a family-friendly, high quality player development experience in a neighborhood based model.

Key Points of Westside Affiliates
  • Shared Vision.  Westside and Affiliates subscribe to the common vision as exemplified in the Seattle United unification initiative.  Until Seattle United materializes, Westside and Affiliates recognize value in working together.

  • Club of Record & Player Registration. Affiliates will remain tied to the Seattle youth soccer club in which they operate (their host club).  Affiliates’ select player registration will be with their host club.

  • Volunteerism.  Affiliates will contribute a team volunteer that will contribute in planning pertaining to a broad range of topics to identify best practices on the ground heading into Seattle United.

  • Training Resources.  Westside Club Trainer Pool resources will be made available to Affiliates as requested.

  • Team Training Locations.  During the fall season when clubs control field allocations, Westside and Affiliates will train on fields associated with their host clubs.  During other active times of the program year, field requests to SYSA should be performed directly by Westside and Affiliates to ensure field assignments are made that best reflect the geographic location of the team.

  • Joint Player Development Initiatives.  Westside and Affiliates plan to collaborate on matters of REC and Select player development such as happened in the Seattle Soccer Development Academy "pilot" that was launched by SYSA in spring 2009.
